Super 70's "Shock Rock" Spider Mens and Womens T-Shirt
I'll bet you've never seen a shirt this cool before... this killer cult horror t-shirt is absolutely amazing!!
35 years before the shock rock of Marilyn Manson, there was this insanely spooky and psychedelic monster named Alice Cooper! Mixing horror movies, Vaudeville and acid rock, he created an ultra-violent version of Heavy Metal music that's inspired metal bands to this day! Most people don't realize that the original hard rock makeup band "KISS" (1971), actually came ten years after Alice Cooper's original shock rock (1964).
Most of you know the leather-clad Alice Cooper from the 80's, with his creepy-but-catchy song "Poison" (associated with one of the Friday The 13th movies)... but he came and went and nobody really thought twice about where he had gone... and so goes the shame of The MTV generation.
Unfortunately, we all know new media has no interest in the history of musicians... old albums don't sell like new ones, so the media ignores everything that isn't "new" music.
But if you were introduced to Alice Cooper in the psychedelic garage rock 70's... I bet you would Love It to Death!! (hehe, inside joke!) His early work is incredibly groovy, with killer cool songs like Black Juju, Ballad of Dwight Fry, I'm Eighteen and School's Out... and after all these years under the stairs, this stuff still tastes great... especially his horrific stage shows!
Alice Cooper was the first one to REALLY bring theatrics onto the stage, and I mean "horror" theatrics... you could expect to see a 12 foot Frankenstein come to life, a giant black widow spider hanging from the roof... he also managed to show some sort of murder / suicide / death scene at every single show (think guillotines, electric chairs, etc).
And if that's not strange enough, he also had his "weird" side (for the stoners) where he would writhe under a white bed sheet, strobe lights pulsing, creating glowing streaks of light off this unusual morphing white mass. All the while, the music is swirling and jamming... Alice is chanting or speaking in tongues... the crowd is having a tribal moment, all swaying and grooving in a hypnotized unison.
Yeah, you feel me on that? That's real... nothing like the Alice Cooper of the 80's, with his glam hair and Guns'n'Roses leather. He was really freaking cool back in the 70's... and because of that, he's really freaking cool right now!
As Marilyn Manson appears to actually be turning into a woman... Vincent Furnier is actually still being the straight-jacketed psychopath that he's always been! And from where I'm sitting, that just rocks!
The godfather of shock rock himself, sums it up best: "We were into fun, sex, death and money when everybody was into peace and love. We wanted to see what was next. It turned out we were next, and we drove a stake through the heart of the Love Generation"
