The Clash brought a lot of fire to the table with their music... so much in fact, they burnt down the entire city! Think of it this way, Mick Jones and The Clash were common friends with the Sex Pistols. That's the kind of fire they harnessed.

But that's not all they had to offer... mixing up dub, ska, funk, rap and reggae is where the real power came from... three chord punk may have been novel, but ultimately you have to be innovative to stand the test of time (or outrageous beyond all others - ala Sid Vicious). Joe, Mick, Keith and Paul knew this, and put the pen to the paper... and the pick to the string... and the boot to the face.

Lasting only 10 years (1976-'86), The Clash managed to create what is widely acclaimed the "best album of the 1980's" with their legendary "London Calling". While that status is generally a fleeting comment made by a small boardroom of arrogant rock journalists, the fact they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 is something a wee-bit more tangible... their legacy is offically on record for future generations to discover.

I mean, yeah... their albums are still in the record stores... but they're buried behind the plethora of generic hip hop albums that now litter the commercial music landscape, the Hall of Fame is certainly a noteworthy relic of a band that deserves to relic'd.
