Tony McPhee's The Groundhogs... man, you need to get it together!!

This album reached Number 9 on the UK music charts in May of 1970... no small feat considering that was a competitive time for rock music... battling it out against Eric Clapton's band Cream or Ian Anderson's Jethro Tull... never mind the futility of chart-fighting with Keith Richards and The Rolling Stones or the ultimate guitar guru Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Band of Gypsys.

Being able to chart at ALL is something special... and their next album "Split" reached Number 5 in 1971 (the single "Cherry Red" made it onto the BBC's Top of The Pops!)... and "Who Will Save the World? The Mighty Groundhogs" reached Number 8 in 1972 ... awesome hard rock blues!!

Not to mention... Tony McPhee is one of the most under-rated blues guitarists ever to melt our mind on the planet earth... even less known than the great Rory Gallagher... he's played and recorded with John Mayall and John Lee Hooker... for those of you who don't know any better, this means the man can play the god-damn guitar... Thank Christ for Tony McPhee!!
