Spinal Tap "This One Goes To Eleven" Mens and Womens T-Shirt
"This is Spinal Tap"... the rockmockumentary, is the stuff of legend... and I'm not talking about StoneHenge here people... director Rob Reiner is pure genius for being able to recognize the parody of the rock and roll lifestyle!
Part of the charm of this brilliant movie is that it didn't focus strictly on the immediate state of rock music at the time (1984)... but took a retrospect vision of the music business through the 60's and 70's (arguably the most important and best times for rock music).
The flashbacks illustrated how bands grow through the years, and the ridiculous nature of that growth... humorously revealing the "business" and politics of a touring rock & roll band... and not only the band itself, but it's inevitable entourage of managers, record execs, promoters, creatives and every other slimy coattail rider that prefers music to be a "business"... rather than an "art".
In one fell swoop... Marti DiBergi (Rob Reiner), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) and Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest)... managed to completely undo the illusion of rock stardom... showing the world just how fake it all is, and why.
Now don't get me wrong, Spinal Tap is freaking hilarious... and refreshing... seeing the fumbling and bumbling of a burnout rock band, you can't help but envision Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd in some of these scenarios... that itself is worth the price of admission!
But it's the nuance moments that really make Spinal Tap shine... the humor that only musicians would appreciate fully... such as the classic slogan on this tee... or the legendary "money" song that every famous band seems to do their own version of.
So with that said, let me leave you with the opening lyrics to one of the best Spinal Tap songs, from 'The Thamesmen' years... Gimme Some Money:
Stop wasting my time, you know what I want. You know what I need, or maybe you don't.
Do I have to come right-flat-out and tell you everything? Gimme Some Money! Gimme Some Money!
I'm nobody's fool, I'm nobody's clown. I'm treating you cool, I'm putting you down.
But baby I don't intend to leave empty handed! Gimme Some Money! Gimme Some Money!
Don't get me wrong, try getting me right. Your face is OK, but your purse is too tight.
I'm looking for pound notes, loose change, bad checks, anything! Gimme Some Money! Gimme Some Money!
