The Beatles "John Lennon" Walrus Pop Mens and Womens T-Shirt
As mentioned on our Paul McCartney Wings T-Shirt description, Paul is Dead... but seriously, that statement doesn't mean that The Beatles John Lennon isn't the Walrus... you know what I'm saying... do-you-understand-the-words-that-are-coming-out-of-my-mouth?!?!
Haha, yeah... well, needless to say this psychedelic rock song was written by John Lennon on two separate acid trips. What's even weirder though, is that it was actually completed by combining three songs he wrote... two of which when he was on hard psychedelic drugs, the other one he was probably just high on grass. haha!
He wrote the song because he discovered one of his old grade-school teachers was getting her students to analyze The Beatles tracks... he thought it would be amusing to throw them a curve-ball, so he included some very non-sensical lyrics, which happened to be adopted by fans as very trippy and timeless words.
I Am The Walrus itself actually has some deeper meaning to it (or at least trivia), being inspired by The Walrus in the author Lewis Carroll's book "The Walrus and The Carpenter"... but as we all know, The Beatles are nice boys... so Lennon was very disappointed when he found out the Walrus in the book was actually the villain of the story.
Now he DID actually read the book, but he didn't recognize the metaphor for capitalism that Carroll was actually trying to convey (Think: Animal Farm), he took it at face value... .like a nice boy! Lennon went on to muse, "Oh shit, I picked the wrong character... I should have said: 'I am the carpenter'... but that's not really the same, is it?"
Personally, we think that's one of the coolest Beatles stories ever... showing so much insight into how such a well-known song comes to be. And that's why we're bringing you this vintage Beatles t-shirt... because everyone wants an I Am The Walrus shirt and a John Lennon tshirt... and this tee is BOTH!! Another one of our unique cult music obscurities that likely won't last for long, buy one of these tees now... before it's retired!
